Protect Your Home Against Flood

Did You Know Homeowners Insurance does not Cover Flood Damage?

Whereas most Florida homeowners insurance policies cover water damage from occurrences originating inside your home like a burst pipe or appliance leaks, they do NOT cover flood damage. Flood insurance is defined as insurance against damage from rising waters outside your home, like storm surge.

There is a mandatory 30 day wait for a new flood insurance policy to go into effect. Secure your coverage before hurricane season!

Mandatory Flood Insurance for Citizens Policyholders

A new law passed a couple of years ago made it mandatory for people insured with Citizens to carry separate flood insurance. This is mandatory only for people who have wind/hurricane coverage on their policy.

  • People in flood zones needed to have flood insurance in place starting in 2023
  • People with Dwelling Coverage over $600,000 need to have flood insurance starting in 2024.
  • People with Dwelling Coverage over $500,000 need to have flood insurance starting in 2025.
  • People with Dwelling Coverage over $400,000 need to have flood insurance starting in 2026.
  • Effective January of 2027, all homes, regardless of value, will need to have flood insurance.
